Want to get married in France?

Are you French or living in France?  (click here).

If you want to travel to France for your wedding, please read on!

Every resident of France who gets married MUST have a civil ceremony (registry office service) before any religious ceremony takes place.  It is the legal requirement; the marriage is then recognised in France and subject to French law.

If you are NOT a resident of France, you are UNABLE to hold a civil ceremony in France (without undergoing a lengthy process).

This is not a problem.  If you don't live in France, you probably don't want your marriage subject to French law, which is very complicated and very different from UK or American law (for instance)!

So how does it work then?

People travelling to France for their wedding hold a small civil service in their home town before they come to France.  This way, their marriage is registered in their own country, and governed by its laws.

Once in France, having taken care of the legal side of things, you can then have your dream wedding, whether it be a religious ceremony, or a tailored event to suit you at Kerdelann.

Most of the time, the bride, groom, and the officiant are the only people who know!  This way, you can still have your dream wedding in France, but you can also avoid the residency requirements and the extensive amount of paperwork, rules and regulations!  The perfect scenario!
